Hypoxic burden
A complementary index to the apnoea-hypopnoea index
CIDELEC is the first manufacturer to integrate the calculation of hypoxic burden into your recordings in order to improve diagnosis and patient management.
Hypoxic burden, defined as the image of hypoxia caused by apnoeas/hypopnoeas during a night’s sleep, is proving to be a biomarker associated with cardiovascular pathologies. This is an additional indicator that can be used to help diagnose sleep problems.
The hypoxic burden index complements the apnoea-hypopnoea index (AHI), which is unable to estimate the risk of morbidity and mortality in patients suffering from OSAHS. In the example opposite, two patients with the same AHI and similar desaturation indexes and T90s have very different hypoxic burden values.
Hypoxic burden calculation integrated into CIDELEC software
The hypoxic burden is calculated automatically in the CIDELEC software. It is obtained by considering the areas of desaturation associated with respiratory events.
Its value is shown in the recording summary, and a scale in the ‘Results graph’ tab makes it easier to use. This scale is based on statistical values published in the literature. It makes it easier to interpret the value of the hypoxic burden.
